Traumatic and dental factors in the development of headaches.

According to the definition of the science of physiology, diseases are circulatory disorders that lead to dysfunction.

As we know, pain and cold spasms have the greatest impact on tissue circulation disorders.

According to scientific data, both cold and painful spasm of blood vessels leads to a decrease in blood circulation up to 15% each!!!

It is clear that the combination of these two physical factors leads to a significant decrease in blood circulation up to 30%. causes the occurrence of pathology of the facial part of the head.

If with the mechanism of cold injury, the situation is clear, what is the cause of physical spasmodic pain and

functional disorders in the branches of the "chicken quote" until recently was a mystery.

In 2019, the American Dental Association (ADA) conducted a study that found that the displacement occlusion by 0.15 mm leads to the clinical manifestation of the “trigeminal nerve syndrome” and other functional violations of the facial surface of the head, due to the displacement of the elements of the jaw joints, violating the anatomical location of nerves and blood vessels.

Thus, with a decrease in bite and “sagging” of the front teeth, the articular surfaces of the lower jaw, through the block molars, migrate back, disrupting the function of the neurovascular bundle of the ear and the vestibular apparatus. If translated into ordinary simple language, it sounds like this: when correcting a bite by an orthodontist, removing or cutting teeth, there may be pain in the front of the head. Or have you been sleeping uncomfortable, overcooled, injured, and have a disposition of the cervical vertebrae appeared, which also leads to problems with auditory, visual, ENT apparatus.

Based on our own data obtained from patients treated at the Murzilka clinic, the goal was research, confirm or refute data obtained from scientific sources regarding the causes leading to the occurrence of facial pain and associated pathological conditions.

If the functioning of the 1,2,3 cranial nerves and their vascular bundles is impaired, you may be disturbed by:

  • Migraine

  • Runny nose

  • Sinusitis

  • visual impairment

  • Crack or "click" of the jaw

The current state of knowledge about pain in the facial part of the head has unlimited theoretical justifications, but is very limited. in practical application, in medical practice. Part of the problem lies in the decrease in the volume of assistance with pathogenic methods of treatment.

Ukraine is the only state in Eurasia where for 35 years the specialty "manual therapy" does not belong to medical specialties. And the specialty of dentistry, so separated from general medical care, that its impact on treatment of facial pain is almost non-existent.

From the course of clinical anatomy, it is known that the blood supply to all elements of the head is carried out through the branches of the vertebral and

common carotid artery Passing along the neck, these arteries (in trinity with a nerve and a vein) give off branches, of which the largest diagnostic and therapeutic value for facial pain, has the so-called "chicken foot". Anatomists call this term distinction of five neurovascular branches in the area of the joints.

The first three branches (1-3 cerebral nerves) cover the anterior facial surface along the trigeminal nerve: the frontal part

(migraine), eyes (visual disturbances) and nose (sinusitis, etc.). The lower branch of the trigeminal nerve has an elongation up to the dentition.

upper and lower jaw, which is clinically manifested as dental disease, periodontal disease and toothache.

The fifth branch is important, which departs from the main node of the trigeminal nerve and goes towards the ear and vestibular apparatus.

Considering all the above facts, we analyzed the data on the example of patients who applied to the Murzilka clinic over the past 2 years.

Questionnaires were selected from 29 patients aged 9 to 76 years of age, who, among other things, complained of headache, pathology of the facial part of the head.

In addition, complaints of discomfort or impaired mobility in the cervical spine were taken into account.

Signs of jaw asymmetry were considered:

1. Lip asymmetry

2. Jaw asymmetry relative to the general position of the skull (displacement of the jaw angle to one side or the other).

3. Displacement of the hole between 1 front teeth of the lower jaw relative to the hole between 1 teeth of the upper jaw.

4. General visible displacement of the bite.

Thus, the study confirmed the modern concept of the formation of orofacial pain due to physical causes.

Such reasons are the three-dimensional disposition of the occlusion of the teeth, accompanied by migration of the jaw and impaired functioning of the neurovascular bundles of the branches of the trigeminal nerve.

This may be due to inadequate dental treatment, or due to direct physical or cold injury, which leads to a change in the position of the jaw, and thus affects the physical location of the jaw articular surfaces.

The neurovascular branch involved in the pathological process determines the clinical manifestations of pathological conditions and their place manifestations. A significant influence on the development of facial pain of the physical disposition of the vertebrae in the cervical spine was also confirmed. Comprehensive treatment of patients with orofacial pain revealed a complete relief of the symptom of pain in all patients without exception. However, when the cause of orofacial pain was determined to be dental genesis, full recovery occurred only after orthodontic bite correction.

In all cases of headache caused by the disposition of the cervical vertebrae, the use by patients of synthetic non-physiological elastic pillows (marketing names "syntapon" "orthopedic" "memory" "latex" and other types of paralons) was revealed.

Changing the pillow to a natural down-feather or wadded one leads to a very quick rehabilitation and recovery of the neck muscles.

I also want to draw your attention to the fact that back in Soviet times, it was established that it was impossible to interfere with the anatomical structure of the child's body until the end of puberty. Thus, I draw the attention of parents to the popularization of bite changes in children and adolescents, inserting “plates”, “braces”, etc., to children, until all milk teeth fall out and an anatomical, genetic bite of the teeth is established.
